Kullu, August 01: The water level of all the rivers and streams in the area has suddenly and significantly increased due to continuous rainfall after a massive cloudburst in Kullu district. Kullu police has issued an immediate warning and cautioned people to stay away from rivers and streams. In case of emergency, people can contact the district police control room on 8219681600.

The flood has caused heavy damage to Malana One and Malana Two power projects. The water level of Parvati river has risen to dangerous heights, due to which people have been evacuated from riverside areas like Jiya and Bhuntar. Similarly, people living on the banks of Beas and Tirthan rivers have been advised to move to safer places due to rising water levels.

The situation is grim in the Nirmand area of Kullu. Around 8-10 houses have been washed away in Bagipul, including important buildings like Patwar Khana, hotels and shops. The sad part is that seven to ten people are currently missing, out of which seven persons belong to the same family. The bus stand at Bagipul has been destroyed, and 15 vehicles have been swept away by the floods.

Rescue operations led by the Tehsildar are in full swing despite several bridges and roads being closed. Officials are working tirelessly to reach and assist affected residents, although challenging weather conditions and damage to infrastructure are hampering efforts.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and follow official instructions to ensure their safety during this critical time. The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and will provide further information as and when available.
