Heavy Rainfall Causes Widespread Damage in Mandi; Himachal in Deep Crisis – Jairam Thakur Urges Prompt Government Relief
Mandi, July 30:
Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, has expressed deep concern over the extensive damage caused by relentless rainfall in the hill state of Himachal Pradesh. He stated that the ongoing natural calamities have pushed the state into a severe crisis.
Referring to recent devastation in his home constituency Seraj—as well as in Nachan, Karsog, and Dharampur—Thakur said that fresh reports of a flash flood in Mandi Sadar reached him early this morning. He immediately visited the affected site along with local MLA Anil Sharma to assess the situation firsthand.
Tragically, three lives were lost due to overflowing drains following last night’s heavy downpour. In addition, hundreds of vehicles were caught in the sudden flash flood. Similar incidents have been reported from other parts of Mandi district and across Himachal, raising serious concerns about the growing impact of extreme weather in the region. Thakur urged the state government to act swiftly and provide timely relief to the affected people.
Addressing questions surrounding the disaster in Seraj, he emphasized that cloudbursts and flash floods can strike anywhere in today’s changing climate. He called on the public to remain alert and adopt all necessary precautions during the monsoon.
Jairam Thakur expressed deep sorrow over the loss of three lives in the flash flood and personally met with the grieving families to offer his condolences. He was accompanied by MLA Anil Sharma, Municipal Corporation Mayor Virender Bhatt, and local councillors during the visit.
