The flow of Chandrabhaga river has stopped due to continuous flood-like situation in Lahaul valley’s Jahalma drain. Due to this, the Jobarang bridge built on Chandrabhaga river is in danger.
Lahaul Spiti Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar reviewed the flood-like situation in the Jahalma drain, he said on the occasion that the water level of the Chandrabhaga river is reaching the bridge, but at present there is no danger of the bridge being washed away and its structure is safe.
He also said that in case of damage to this bridge, a proposal is being prepared to connect Jobarang Panchayat through an alternative route. He said – the water of the river was going over the bridge. Today on the spot we saw our team with us. So the structure of the bridge is safe.
But there is some fear among the people that if this bridge goes away, then there is a high chance of damage to their crops. So today we have given this direction that an alternate route should be made from here as soon as possible. And take it in FRA and see that an alternate route should be prepared as soon as possible.
So that the biggest problem of the people is connectivity and decision making, then we will get it completed as soon as possible and the rest like the bridge is structurally safe but cannot say anything disaster. So hopefully it will be safe, but if something like this happens eventually, we will definitely have an alternate route.
The Deputy Commissioner said that to control the flood of Jahalma drain, a channelization plan of Rs 20 crore has been prepared, on which work will start soon.
