Biden invites Japan South Korea PMs for trilateral meeting in US
According to a statement released by the White House, Biden appreciated the courageous work of Kishida and Yun in improving their bilateral ties when he met them on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit in Hiroshima. United States President Joe Biden on Sunday invited Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol to hold a formal trilateral meeting, Kyodo news agency reported. This invitation has come amid China’s assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific region.
Furthermore, during the summit in Hiroshima, the G7 leaders agreed on the importance of the G7 having a unified perspective on China, acknowledging the systemic challenge China poses to our collective economic security and regional stability. The leaders discussed taking their trilateral cooperation to new heights, including new coordination on North Korea’s illicit nuclear and missile threats, economic security, and their respective Indo-Pacific strategies. The leaders last held a three-way meeting in Cambodia in November and agreed to share real-time missile warning data to deal with the growing threat of North Korea’s nuclear and missile programme.
