State Congress president DK Shivakumar and former chief minister Siddaramaiah are in the race for the chief minister’s post. The party on Sunday sent three observers, including former Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, to Karnataka ahead of the Legislature Party meeting in which a unanimous decision on the name of the new chief minister was handed over to party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Meanwhile, Mr. Siddaramaiah has reached Delhi and is holding talks with the Congress high command on the issue of the next Chief Minister. Today is also the birthday of State Congress President Shivkumar and he is also expected to come to Delhi and hold talks with the high command. He, however, also said in Bengaluru on Monday that he would follow the responsibility assigned to him by the Congress high command.
