In Paraguay, for most of the time in the last 76 years, only the Colorado Party has been in power. While left-wing governments are returning to power throughout the South American region, right-wing politics still dominates in Paraguay.
Santiago Peña won 43 percent of the total 99 percent of the vote in Paraguay. During the election campaign, Peña made big promises such as creating jobs, reducing energy prices and ending the drug trade.
