Gujarat Giants

Unlike most teams in the inaugural WPL, Gujarat Giants is the brand new Franchise, not connected to an existing men’s Indian Premier League. Although unlikely to affect them on the field, it will be interesting to see what effect that does.

There is a distinctly Australian flavour in the inaugural Giants Squad, but when you realise who the inaugural coach is it is less of a surprise.

The inaugural Gujarat Giants Coach is none other than former Australian vice Captain and opening batsman Rachael Haynes. Haynes also has Indian Royalty in her corner with former Indian Captain and batsman Mithali Raj mentoring the side this season.

Haynes will look to four of her teammates, in particular, to help guide the Giants through their inaugural season.

Fresh off her player of the Match performance in the T20 World Cup Final, Beth Mooney will be the inaugural captain of Gujarat Giants and look to continue her excellent form into the WPL.

Annabel Sutherland is a rising force in the Australian team and can be dangerous with both bat and ball in hand, while Georgia Wareharm has had a dramatic return to play following recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury she is suffering from.

However, the four Aussies are not the only international faces on the inaugural Giants’ side.
