Russian Missile Attack on Kyiv Kills 1, Injures 8 as Fires Break Out Across Five Districts

One person was killed and eight others were injured after Russia launched an overnight attack on Kyiv involving ballistic missiles, Ukrainian authorities said.

The attack began at around 1:30 a.m. local time and continued for several hours, with powerful explosions reported across the Ukrainian capital. The strikes caused fires in five districts and damaged residential buildings, offices, industrial facilities, a dormitory and several vehicles.

According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, emergency crews carried out rescue operations at multiple locations as fires spread across the city.

In the Sviatoshynskyi district, rescuers pulled four people from a burning private house. Emergency workers also rescued residents from a burning three-storey building in the Shevchenkivskyi district. A fire at a non-residential building was later brought under control, although one person was found dead.

Firefighters were also deployed to deal with fires in the Solomyanskyi, Desnianskyi and Dnipro districts.

The latest attack comes as Russia has intensified large-scale strikes on Kyiv in recent weeks. Ukraine is facing a shortage of Patriot air defence missiles, which are considered among the country’s most effective systems for intercepting Russian ballistic missiles.

US President Donald Trump has said that he is prepared to grant Ukraine licences to produce Patriot interceptor missiles. Such a move could potentially strengthen Kyiv’s ability to defend itself against future ballistic missile attacks.

However, the details of the proposed arrangement and the timeline for its implementation remain unclear.
