In a major push to strengthen adventure tourism in the state, Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta on Friday unveiled the poster for the ‘Chalo Himachal’ campaign, an initiative designed to showcase the state’s growing potential as a leading destination for adventure and eco-tourism.

The campaign poster was released at Lok Bhavan during a courtesy meeting with members of the Govind Sagar Adventure and Water Sports Association.

The initiative seeks to promote water sports, adventure activities and eco-tourism experiences across Himachal Pradesh, with a special focus on the state’s iconic reservoirs, dams and lakes.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Kavinder Gupta highlighted tourism’s vital contribution to Himachal Pradesh’s economy and emphasized the importance of initiatives that leverage the state’s natural landscapes and adventure offerings.

“Tourism remains one of the strongest pillars of Himachal Pradesh’s economy. Efforts that highlight the state’s scenic beauty and adventure tourism potential can attract more visitors, generate employment opportunities and create sustainable livelihoods for local communities,” the Governor said.

Providing details about the campaign, Govind Sagar Adventure and Water Sports Association founder member Ishan Akhtar informed that the ‘Chalo Bilaspur, Chalo Himachal’ initiative will feature a series of adventure sports events at some of the state’s most prominent water bodies.

The proposed venues include Govind Sagar Lake and Kol Dam in Bilaspur, Pong Dam in Kangra district, and Chamera Dam in Chamba district.

The event lineup is expected to include water sports championships, paragliding competitions, car and motorcycle racing events, as well as an international open-water swimming championship spanning nearly 50 kilometres from Bilaspur to Bhakra Dam.

Tourism stakeholders believe the campaign could significantly enhance Himachal Pradesh’s appeal among domestic and international adventure enthusiasts while helping diversify the state’s tourism sector beyond traditional hill station travel.

With increasing interest in experiential travel, adventure tourism initiatives such as ‘Chalo Himachal’ are expected to play an important role in positioning Himachal Pradesh as one of India’s premier destinations for outdoor recreation and water-based activities.
