President Donald Trump has floated the idea of inviting former presidents, including Barack Obama and Joe Biden, to the White House for a football viewing event, describing it as a moment that could capture public attention and symbolise presidential camaraderie.
Trump shared the idea during an appearance on “Storytime with the Second Lady,” a podcast hosted by US Second Lady Usha Vance. The episode was released ahead of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence.
During the podcast, Trump read from President’s Play!, a book published by the White House Historical Association that highlights the hobbies and leisure activities of past American presidents.
While turning to a page depicting a president hosting a Super Bowl gathering at the White House, Trump proposed an unusual scenario involving political rivals and former leaders.
“Maybe I should invite Barack Hussein Obama, Joe Biden, with the Bushes — or Bush. Maybe I should invite some of those people to watch a football game together,” Trump said.
He added that such an event would likely attract widespread media attention.
“Wouldn’t that be a nice story? The press would go wild,” Trump remarked.
Responding to the suggestion, Usha Vance joked, “A president reunion? That would be fun.”
The podcast series features guests reading books aimed at children while discussing stories and historical themes through YouTube episodes.
Trump Reflects on the Presidency
Speaking during the conversation, Trump also shared his views about serving in the White House, saying that presidents should focus on public service during their limited time in office.
“You’re at the White House for a short period of time, and it’s an honour to be here. You should work for the people,” Trump said.
Rare Praise for Bill Clinton
In a lighter moment, Trump offered uncommon praise for former President Bill Clinton while discussing a running track built at the White House during Clinton’s administration.
“He actually was a nice guy. I like Bill Clinton a lot. I still do,” Trump said.
Trump acknowledged that he had only recently learned about the track and joked that he did not see himself adopting a similar fitness routine.
Humorous Remarks About Past Presidents
Trump also made humorous observations about several former presidents featured in the book, including William Howard Taft, who was known for his passion for baseball.
Referring to Taft’s stature, Trump joked that he would prefer not to surpass the former president’s record as the heaviest US president.
The comments added a lighter tone to the discussion, which largely focused on presidential history, traditions and life inside the White House.
