A terrifying scene unfolded at one of the world’s busiest tourist destinations, Times Square, when multiple gunshots rang out, forcing tourists and pedestrians to run for cover in a moment of sheer panic.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon around 3:40 PM, when the crowded streets of Manhattan were packed with visitors and residents. A video captured from a nearby webcam appeared to show at least two individuals dressed in black entering a busy intersection and opening fire with what seemed to be handguns.

Within seconds, the lively atmosphere turned into chaos. Frightened bystanders were seen screaming, running in different directions, and taking shelter behind nearby structures to protect themselves from the gunfire.

Police officers who were already on patrol near the area immediately responded and chased the suspects as they fled the scene. The shooting happened only a few yards away from a parked police vehicle, allowing officers to react within moments.

According to the Fire Department, one person was injured in the incident and transported to a hospital. Authorities have not yet released further information regarding the victim’s condition or the motive behind the shooting.

The gunfire came shortly after celebrations linked to the New York Knicks’ historic NBA championship victory, which had drawn massive crowds across lower Manhattan. Officials had deployed around 10,000 police officers to maintain security during the large-scale public celebrations marking the team’s first championship in more than five decades.

The latest shooting has once again raised concerns about public safety in crowded tourist locations. Just days earlier, a 17-year-old was reportedly shot in the Times Square area during celebrations following another Knicks victory, highlighting ongoing security challenges despite heavy police presence.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the latest shooting, and further details are expected to be released as the case develops.
