The urban local body elections in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district witnessed an intense political contest on Sunday, with the BJP gaining a clear advantage in Jogindernagar while Congress-backed candidates emerged dominant in Nerchowk.

In the Jogindernagar Municipal Council elections, BJP-supported candidates won four out of the seven seats, signaling strong public support for the saffron party in the region. The remaining three seats were secured by Independent candidates, making the council politically significant ahead of future local political developments.

On the other hand, the Congress camp celebrated a major victory in the Nerchowk Municipal Council, where Congress-backed nominees won seven out of nine seats. The BJP managed to secure only one seat, while one Independent candidate also registered a victory.

Meanwhile, the Sarkaghat Municipal Council witnessed a closely fought contest between the two major parties. Congress-supported candidates won three seats, BJP-backed candidates also secured three seats, and one seat went to an Independent candidate.

High Voter Turnout Marks Mandi Civic Elections

The elections across various Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats in Mandi district concluded peacefully with enthusiastic participation from voters. According to election officials, the district recorded an impressive overall voter turnout of 73.69 percent.

Polling began at 7 am and witnessed steady participation throughout the day. Early morning voting trends showed strong enthusiasm among residents across urban local bodies.

By 9 am, voter turnout figures stood at:

  • Jogindernagar Municipal Council – 17.10%
  • Nerchowk Municipal Council – 18.66%
  • Sarkaghat Municipal Council – 18.88%
  • Sundernagar Municipal Council – 15.40%
  • Karsog Nagar Panchayat – 22.81%
  • Rewalsar Nagar Panchayat – 17.12%

As polling concluded at 3 pm, the final turnout figures reflected strong public engagement in the democratic process.

Final voter turnout recorded:

  • Jogindernagar Municipal Council – 72.48%
  • Nerchowk Municipal Council – 80.84%
  • Sarkaghat Municipal Council – 72.02%
  • Sundernagar Municipal Council – 70.28%
  • Karsog Nagar Panchayat – 74.83%
  • Rewalsar Nagar Panchayat – 77.03%

Peaceful Polling Across Mandi District

District Election Officer of Mandi, Apoorv Devgan, stated that polling remained peaceful, fair, and well-organized throughout the district. He said that voters participated enthusiastically at polling booths and that adequate security and administrative arrangements had been made to ensure smooth conduct of the elections.

The results are being seen as an important indicator of political mood in Mandi district, especially with both BJP and Congress trying to strengthen their grassroots presence in Himachal Pradesh through local body elections.
