The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-backed candidates delivered a strong performance in the Kandaghat Nagar Panchayat elections by winning five out of the seven seats, reaffirming the party’s influence in the region. The Congress-supported candidates managed to secure only two seats in the closely watched civic body elections held in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district.

The BJP-backed winners include Ravi Sethi, Rajkumar, Rajita, Neeraj, and Monika Pandit. On the other hand, Congress-supported candidates Puneet Sharma and Pushpa emerged victorious in their respective wards.

Reacting to the results, BJP district president Rattan Pal described the outcome as a clear public mandate against the ruling Congress government. He said the results reflected growing dissatisfaction among voters and highlighted the BJP’s continued grassroots support in the area.

Interestingly, the election results mirrored the trend seen in the 2021 Nagar Panchayat elections, where BJP-backed candidates had won six out of seven seats, leaving only one seat for Congress-supported contenders.

Kandaghat Records Highest Voter Turnout in Solan District

Apart from the election outcome, Kandaghat Nagar Panchayat also stood out for registering the highest voter turnout among all civic bodies in Solan district. According to official data, the town witnessed an impressive 82.17% polling percentage.

Out of the total eligible voters, 1,548 residents exercised their franchise during the elections. The polling day saw enthusiastic participation from voters across different age groups, including a significant number of elderly citizens who came forward to cast their votes.

In contrast, Parwanoo recorded the lowest polling percentage among the civic bodies in the district.

Strong Voter Participation Reflects Civic Engagement

The high turnout in Kandaghat is being seen as a sign of strong civic awareness and active public participation in local governance. Political observers believe that the election results could influence future political strategies in Solan district ahead of upcoming elections in Himachal Pradesh.

With the BJP once again securing a majority in the Nagar Panchayat, the focus will now shift toward local development issues and governance expectations from the newly elected representatives.
