Weather conditions in Himachal Pradesh are set to take a dramatic turn starting April 16, with the Meteorological Centre issuing orange and yellow alerts for several districts due to expected heavy snowfall, rain, and hailstorms.

According to the weather department, an orange alert has been declared for districts including Kullu, Kangra, Mandi, and Chamba. These regions are likely to experience intense hailstorms, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong gusty winds, which could disrupt daily life and travel.

Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for Shimla, Una, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur. These areas are expected to witness moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds.

The department has also forecast snowfall in higher-altitude regions and widespread rainfall across the state till April 19. A yellow warning remains in place during this period, urging residents and tourists to stay cautious, especially in hilly and landslide-prone areas.

Relief is expected from April 20 onwards, as weather conditions are likely to stabilize and remain dry across the state.

Temperature Trends Show Mixed Pattern

Interestingly, while minimum temperatures are expected to rise by 2°C to 3°C, the maximum temperatures may drop by 3°C to 5°C over the next few days, bringing a noticeable chill during daytime hours.

Over the past 24 hours, weather across Himachal remained largely dry, with temperatures staying within normal ranges. Key observations include:

  • Shimla: 13.4°C
  • Dharamshala: 11.6°C
  • Manali: 11.9°C
  • Solan: 11°C
  • Bilaspur: 15°C

Una recorded the highest maximum temperature at 34.5°C, making it the warmest location in the state, while Keylong remained the coldest with a minimum temperature of just 1.3°C.

Advisory for Residents and Tourists

With unpredictable weather conditions ahead, authorities advise people to:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel in high-altitude areas
  • Stay updated with official weather bulletins
  • Take precautions against lightning and strong winds

As Himachal Pradesh braces for this sudden weather shift, residents are urged to remain alert and prepared for potential disruptions over the next few days.
