In a powerful display of grassroots governance, the ‘Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar’ outreach programme brought government services directly to the people of Mehla gram panchayat in the Bharmour subdivision of Himachal Pradesh on Friday.
Presided over by Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, the camp turned into a lifeline for hundreds of villagers seeking assistance, clarity, and solutions.
Nearly 400 Residents Participate
Residents from Mehla, Chadi, Phagri, Bandla, Dadhvi, and Wakaan panchayats gathered in large numbers. Around 400 people attended the camp, voicing their concerns and submitting developmental demands directly to officials.
For many, it was more than just a government event — it was an opportunity to be heard.
Departmental exhibitions showcased various welfare schemes, helping villagers understand the benefits they are entitled to and how to access them.
On-the-Spot Solutions and Assurances
Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania personally listened to grievances and ensured that most issues were resolved on the spot. He emphasized that the initiative is designed to provide time-bound grievance redressal at the local level while allowing the administration to better understand regional needs.
He noted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the programme has been carefully structured to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficiency in service delivery.
Focus on Road Connectivity
Responding to a demand raised by MLA Dr Janak Raj, the Speaker directed officials to take necessary steps to improve road connectivity in the Bharmour constituency — a long-standing concern for locals.
Welfare Services Delivered at the Doorstep
The camp witnessed active participation from multiple departments:
- Revenue Department: Registered 25 land mutations and updated eight Aadhaar cards.
- Health Department: Conducted health check-ups for 89 individuals, distributed free medicines, screened 17 people for hepatitis and HIV, and registered four individuals for disability certificates.
In a significant relief measure, cheques worth ₹6.2 lakh were distributed to six families affected by disasters. Additionally, six beneficiaries received house keys under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), marking a life-changing moment for several households.
A Step Toward Responsive Governance
The Mehla camp reflected a growing shift toward people-centric governance in rural Himachal. For the disaster-hit families who received financial aid, and for those who walked away with resolved grievances, the initiative was more than administrative outreach — it was reassurance that the system works.
As welfare schemes move closer to the grassroots, such programmes continue to strengthen trust between citizens and the government.
