Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Tuesday mounted a sharp political offensive against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of adopting a stance that weakens India’s global standing.

Speaking to reporters at Kangra airport, Thakur did not hold back. He questioned whether Gandhi was fulfilling his constitutional responsibilities as Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, or, as he put it, acting as a “Leader of Opposing India.”

“Damaging India’s Global Image”

Thakur alleged that Gandhi’s recent remarks on sensitive national issues — particularly the economy and foreign policy — send negative signals internationally. According to him, such statements not only misrepresent India’s growth story but also embolden forces that seek to undermine the country’s progress.

The BJP leader was especially critical of Gandhi’s comments on the Union Budget and his description of the Indian economy as “dead.” Thakur dismissed the claim outright, asserting that India remains one of the fastest-growing major economies in the world.

Government Focus: Growth and Development

Defending the Centre’s fiscal roadmap, Thakur said the government’s policies are aimed at strengthening infrastructure, empowering youth, supporting farmers, and boosting domestic manufacturing. He emphasized that reforms and capital investments are being strategically directed to secure long-term economic stability.

“The facts speak for themselves,” Thakur suggested, adding that macroeconomic indicators and global investor confidence reflect a resilient Indian economy.

Political Temperatures Rise

The exchange marks yet another chapter in the intensifying war of words between the ruling BJP and the Congress party ahead of crucial political developments. With both sides sharpening their narratives on economic performance and governance, the debate is likely to grow louder in the coming weeks.

While criticism and counter-criticism remain central to democratic discourse, the tone and framing of such debates continue to spark national conversation.
