Panic gripped the Kullu district court complex on Friday after an email threatening to blow up the premises prompted an immediate evacuation and a large-scale security response from the police and district administration.

Officials said this was the second time the Kullu courts had received such a bomb threat.

Soon after the threatening email was detected, police swung into action. Acting on the directions of Superintendent of Police Madan Lal Kaushal, authorities evacuated the entire court complex as a precautionary measure. Public movement in and around the area was restricted, and all judicial proceedings were temporarily suspended in the interest of safety.

Bomb disposal and dog squads were rushed to the spot, while a heavy police contingent was deployed to secure the area. The adjacent BSNL office was also evacuated as an additional safety measure.

Security teams conducted a thorough search of the court premises to rule out any possible threat. However, no suspicious object was found, officials confirmed.

During the evacuation, lawyers, judicial staff and litigants were escorted out safely. The sudden alert created chaos and visible fear among those present at the complex.

Authorities noted that a similar bomb threat had been received by the Kullu courts on July 9 last year, which later turned out to be a hoax. Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Kullu had also received a similar threat on May 1, 2025.

SP Kaushal said that although nothing suspicious was detected, the police were not taking any chances. He added that the cyber cell has been tasked with tracing the source of the email and identifying those responsible. Technical evidence is being analysed to track down the culprits.

Meanwhile, the district administration appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours. Security agencies remain on high alert and are closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety.
