Eight-year-old Himanshu lost his life in the devastating fire that gutted a building in Arki, turning a routine morning into a tragedy that has shaken the entire town.
As the fire spread rapidly and thick smoke engulfed the building, panic-stricken residents rushed to escape. Himanshu’s parents, Rakesh and his wife, clutching their infant child, ran out amid the chaos. In the confusion, the terrified boy got separated from them and hid inside a bathroom, possibly believing it would offer safety from the flames.
Unaware of their son’s whereabouts, the parents frantically searched for him after reaching outside. When they failed to locate Himanshu, they approached local MLA Sanjay Awasthi, who was present at the spot. A rescue operation was immediately launched.
After hours of effort, rescuers recovered the child from the bathroom around 7 am. He had suffered severe burn injuries and succumbed while being rushed to hospital.
The bereaved family, migrant workers from Bihar, had come to Arki in search of livelihood and a better future. Instead, they were left devastated by an irreplaceable loss, highlighting once again the deadly consequences of urban fire hazards and inadequate safety measures.
