A mysterious blast near the Nalagarh police station on Thursday morning at around 9:40 am shattered glass panes of nearby buildings, including the Investigation Room (IR) of the police station, triggering panic among residents in the area.
The high-decibel explosion was audible from several metres away and caused a fissure in the arterial road connecting Nalagarh to the highway. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as the blast occurred during early hours when the road, usually crowded, was largely deserted.
Glass panes of the nearby Sainik Bhawan were also damaged, while the boundary wall of the Investigation Room sustained partial damage. The epicentre of the blast was reportedly located outside the police station premises.
Following the incident, SP Baddi Vinod Dhiman and DSP Nalagarh rushed to the spot to assess the situation. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was called to investigate the cause of the explosion.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the blast may have originated from hazardous or explosive material embedded beneath the road, which was laid during 2016–17. Authorities are also examining whether junk residue from a nearby junkyard could have contributed to the incident.
SP Vinod Dhiman stated that a sudden trigger may have caused the explosion, though the exact cause will be confirmed after laboratory analysis of samples collected by the forensic team.
The Nalagarh police have registered a case under Sections 324(4) and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for mischief and negligent acts endangering human life or personal safety. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being scrutinised to rule out any deliberate mischief, though no such evidence has surfaced so far in the preliminary probe.
Further investigation is underway.
