Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today paid floral tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his death anniversary at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhawan. The programme was held to mark Mahaparinirvan Diwas, honouring the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said Dr Ambedkar laid the foundation of social justice, equality and constitutional values—principles that will continue to guide the nation for generations. He stressed that it is the collective duty of every citizen to internalise Ambedkar’s ideals and contribute to building an inclusive, fair and empowered India.

Shukla noted that India, guided by the Constitution drafted by Babasaheb Ambedkar, stands today as the world’s largest democracy. He pointed out that the Constitution clearly defines both the rights and duties of citizens, and emphasised the balance between the two.

“We often remain conscious of our rights, but it is by fulfilling our duties that those rights are safeguarded,” the Governor said. “We must first uphold the duties enshrined in the Constitution and then think of our rights.”

Representatives from the International Federation of Red Cross — Dev Ji Bhujjia and Rachna — along with John George from the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as officers and staff of Raj Bhawan, also offered floral tributes to Dr Ambedkar.
