Shimla’s Daughters Shine at WPL Mega Auction as Renuka and Tanuja Attract Major Bids

Shimla, 28 November | Diary Times News Bureau
The Women’s Premier League mega auction held in New Delhi once again put two of Shimla’s standout talents in the spotlight. Himachal Pradesh’s star pacer Renuka Singh Thakur and all-rounder Tanuja Kanwar drew strong interest from teams, resulting in impressive bids.

Renuka Singh Thakur, who has represented Royal Challengers Bangalore for several seasons, will now don the Gujarat Giants jersey. Gujarat secured her for ₹60 lakh, against a base price of ₹40 lakh. Although this amount is lower than last season’s ₹1.40 crore deal with RCB, teams continued to show firm interest in the seasoned pacer.

Shimla’s all-rounder Tanuja Kanwar also found support from Gujarat Giants, who picked her for ₹45 lakh — equal to her base price. Tanuja has previously been part of the Gujarat camp and was released ahead of this auction, only to be brought back by the franchise during the mega event.

The strong bids for both Renuka and Tanuja reaffirm that Himachal Pradesh is steadily forging a strong identity in women’s cricket, with its players continuing to make their mark on the national stage.
