CITU Holds Major Demonstration in Shimla, Demands Rollback of All Four Labour Codes
Shimla, November 26:
The CITU State Committee of Himachal Pradesh staged a massive protest in Shimla on Wednesday against the four new labour codes introduced by the central government. Hundreds of workers marched from Panchayat Bhawan to the Deputy Commissioner’s office via Lower Bazaar, raising slogans demanding the immediate withdrawal of the labour codes.
Speaking at the protest, CITU State President Vijender Mehra said the new codes are facing widespread opposition at the national level. He described them as detrimental to workers’ democratic rights, safety, wages, and social security.
Mehra alleged that the labour codes aim to restructure labour laws in favour of corporate interests. He warned that both organised and unorganised sector workers would face increased contractualisation, temporary employment pressures, and restrictions on trade union activities. He added that the existing framework of labour welfare would gradually shrink under the new regime.
Mehra made it clear that if the Centre does not withdraw the labour codes, the agitation will be intensified in the coming days.
