On the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Pradesh Congress Committee President Pratibha Singh, Ministers Anirudh Singh and Dhaniram Shandil, along with several MLAs and dignitaries, paid floral tributes at her statue on the Ridge in Shimla.
They described Indira Gandhi’s courage, resolve, and foresight as an invaluable legacy of Indian politics.

The Chief Minister said that leaders with the determination and leadership qualities of Indira Gandhi are rarely seen in the country’s history. She was the first woman Prime Minister who strengthened India’s presence on the global stage. Her strategic vision and decisive leadership played a crucial role in the creation of Bangladesh. He added that today’s Bangladesh stands as a testament to her foresight, as she ensured that India would not be encircled by hostile forces.

Calling her a guiding force for the Congress Party, CM Sukhu said that following the path she showed is a responsibility shared by the entire nation.

Responding to the allegations made by the Leader of the Opposition regarding the government’s disaster-management efforts, CM Sukhu said that the government’s foremost duty during any disaster is to provide immediate relief to affected people. He emphasized that the administration has been consistently reaching out with assistance.
He further clarified that while panchayat elections will proceed in due course, delivering disaster relief remains the government’s highest priority.
