HPU Signs MoU with Indian Army to Foster Collaborative Research and Development Initiatives
Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla signed an MoU with the Indian Army to promote joint research, innovation, and academic collaboration in areas such as border development, cybersecurity, drone technology, and green energy. The initiative, witnessed by CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, aims to strengthen strategic and academic ties between the Army and academia.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla and the Indian Army to promote collaborative research, innovation, and academic initiatives. The signing took place in the presence of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
The MoU was signed by Brigadier Anurag Pandey on behalf of the Indian Army and Professor Mahavir Singh, Vice-Chancellor of HPU.
Chief Minister Sukhu described the agreement as “the beginning of a synergistic partnership between the Indian Army and HPU aimed at fostering collaborative research and development across multiple disciplines.”
Key Focus Areas of Collaboration
The partnership will cover a broad range of focus areas, including:
- Joint historical research on Indo-Tibet linkages;
- Economic and developmental studies on Himachal’s border areas to promote investment and sustainable growth;
- Exploration and deployment of drone technologies and counter-drone systems;
- Development of cybersecurity best practices;
- Promotion of green energy and environmentally responsible initiatives.
The agreement also emphasizes strategic and mass communication initiatives to improve information dissemination and public awareness.
Academic and Research Exchange
The MoU provides for exchange of faculty, researchers, and staff between HPU and the Army for academic collaboration. It also includes the organization of joint seminars, workshops, and training programmes to enhance technical and research capabilities.
In a significant step, the agreement enables Indian Army personnel to pursue academic courses at Himachal Pradesh University, strengthening the knowledge base and mutual learning between academia and the armed forces.

The ceremony was attended by Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta, Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, Lieutenant General D.G. Misra, and Secretary (Education) Rakesh Kanwar, along with other senior officers and university officials.
