Shimla, November 11 — In a major relief initiative for disaster-affected areas, Axis Bank has announced the construction of 57 weather-resistant shelters in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

Axis Bank North Zone Head Abhishek Parashar and State Head Varun Sharma met Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu at his official residence Oak Over on Monday, where they shared details of the project aimed at supporting families severely impacted by natural disasters — particularly in the Seraj Assembly segment.

The proposed shelters will be built with heat insulation, PCC flooring, kitchen slabs and basic electrical fittings, ensuring safe, weather-proof and dignified accommodation for displaced households.

In addition, Axis Bank will also construct 15 community toilet units, each catering to 3–6 families. These facilities will include water tanks, stainless steel sinks and CPVC pipe fittings, ensuring proper sanitation and hygiene in the affected zones.

The bank will further provide logistical and administrative assistance for smooth execution, including beneficiary identification, vendor onboarding, supervision and impact assessment.

Special focus will be given to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and persons with disabilities. The shelters are designed to be durable and reusable, enhancing long-term resilience and disaster preparedness in the region.

Chief Minister Sukhu expressed his gratitude to Axis Bank for the initiative, describing it as a “noble effort” that would go a long way in helping families rebuild their lives. He said such collaborations between the government and the corporate sector are vital in strengthening disaster response and community welfare efforts.
