World Champion Renuka Thakur Receives Grand Welcome in Rohru; Dedicates Victory to Goddess Hateshwari

India’s fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur, who played a pivotal role in helping the Indian women’s cricket team clinch the 2025 World Cup title, returned to her hometown Rohru on Sunday to a rousing reception.
As the World Cup-winning hero arrived, the entire region erupted in celebration. Locals welcomed her with traditional drums, cheers, and flower garlands, turning her homecoming into a festival-like event.
Before heading home, Renuka visited the Hateshwari Mata Temple, her family’s ancestral shrine, to offer prayers and dedicate her victory to the goddess. Bowing before the deity, she performed a special puja and expressed gratitude for the divine blessings that guided her journey — a gesture that reflected her humility and deep spiritual roots.
Speaking to the media, Renuka shared her experiences from the World Cup campaign. “The pressure was immense, but our team stood united and gave its best. Winning the title for India was an unforgettable feeling,” she said.
Recalling her meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she added, “It felt special to know that the Prime Minister was aware of my journey and the struggles my mother and I went through.”
Renuka also expressed gratitude to the Himachal Pradesh government for announcing a cash reward and a job offer in recognition of her achievement. “It’s heartening to see states honouring their athletes for their performances, and I’m proud that my own state has done so too,” she said.
At the Hateshwari Mata Temple in Rohru, Renuka once again bowed her head in reverence, marking her triumph as a tribute to her faith.
