Afghanistan–Pakistan Peace Talks Fail; Ceasefire Remains Intact, Says Taliban
Kabul | November 9
The Taliban on Saturday announced that peace talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan have collapsed, though the ceasefire between the two South Asian neighbors remains in place.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said the talks failed because Islamabad pressured Kabul to take responsibility for Pakistan’s internal security issues, a demand he described as beyond Afghanistan’s “capacity.”
However, Mujahid emphasized that the ceasefire remains effective, saying:
“The ceasefire that was established has not been violated so far, and it will continue to be observed.”
The statement comes amid heightened tensions and cross-border attacks that have strained relations between the two nations in recent months.
