HIMUDA directed to explore options to meet growing housing demand

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday directed the Himachal Pradesh Housing and Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA) to explore possibilities for developing a new township near Chandigarh to address the rising demand for housing. Chairing a review meeting of HIMUDA, the Chief Minister evaluated ongoing and proposed projects and emphasized the importance of timely implementation.

Reviewing the proposed Jathia Devi satellite township near Shimla, Sukhu instructed the department to expedite progress by appointing a consultant at the earliest. He said the township would play a key role in decongesting Shimla and providing world-class urban amenities. Officials informed him that Tata Engineering Services has prepared a detailed blueprint designed to ensure modern infrastructure while preserving the area’s natural beauty.

The Chief Minister also approved the release of ₹20 crore for the early construction of a proposed commercial complex at Vikasnagar in Shimla. The state-of-the-art facility will house government offices, a shopping complex, and other essential services, making it one of the most modern structures in the city.

Reviewing several upcoming housing projects across the state, Sukhu directed officials to ensure their timely completion for the benefit of the public.

Urban Development and Town Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani, HIMUDA Vice-Chairman Yashwant Chajta, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) K.K. Pant, HIMUDA CEO Surender Vashistha, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
