Hegseth Says U.S.–South Korea Alliance Will Remain Focused on North Korea

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Tuesday that while Washington will consider greater “flexibility” in how American troops are deployed in South Korea to respond to regional threats, the core purpose of the U.S.–South Korea alliance will continue to be deterring North Korea.

During his visit to South Korea, Hegseth met with his South Korean counterpart and also toured the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) along the North Korean border.
