Teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur Strengthen Humanity and Unity: Governor
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Sunday paid tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur, recalling his unparalleled sacrifice and message of service to humanity. Speaking at a state-level event organized by Shri Guru Singh Sabha, Shimla, at the historic Ridge to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of the Guru, the Governor said that renunciation, devotion, penance, and compassion form the essence of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s life and teachings.
“Guru Tegh Bahadur’s life teaches us that religion is not merely about rituals or worship, but about the protection of humanity,” the Governor said. “He dedicated his life to defending the rights and freedoms of all people, proving that sacrifice for truth and justice is never in vain.”
Governor Shukla emphasized that the Guru’s message transcends all religions and belongs to all of humanity. He said that the presence of people from diverse regions and communities at the event symbolized India’s unity in diversity. “Whenever society faces fear, intolerance, or division, the Guru’s teachings light the path of courage, compassion, and selfless service,” he added.
Urging people to embody the ideals of the Guru, the Governor called upon everyone to uphold tolerance, mutual respect, and a spirit of service in their daily lives.
Earlier, Shri Guru Singh Sabha, Shimla president Jaswinder Singh welcomed the Governor.
Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, who also attended the event, said that Guru Tegh Bahadur—revered as the Hind di Chadar (Shield of India)—spent several years in Himachal Pradesh. Thakur recalled that the Guru had established an ashram in Paonta Sahib, where he composed many sacred hymns. “The Gurudwara at Paonta Sahib stands as a lasting testament to his courage, teachings, and devotion,” he said, adding that the nation will remain forever indebted to his supreme sacrifice.
