Hamirpur: SP Urges NIT Students to Use Technology for Social Good

Superintendent of Police Bhagat Singh Thakur on Saturday urged students to use their technical skills to bring positive change in society and assist the police in combating cybercrime. He was addressing participants at the “Hack on Hills 7.0” event held at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Hamirpur.

Thakur encouraged students to strive for excellence in modern technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and digital innovation. Emphasizing the need to combine technical expertise with ethical values and social responsibility, he said the creative use of technology is vital for building a safe and progressive India.

Highlighting district police initiatives, Thakur said a campaign titled “War Against Drugs” has been launched to curb substance abuse and the illegal drug trade. He described it as a comprehensive and ambitious effort aimed at creating a healthy, drug-free environment for current and future generations.

The event was jointly organized by NIT Hamirpur’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Computer Centre. Faculty members including Dr. Kamlesh Datta and Dr. Jyoti Srivastava, along with several officials and students, were present on the occasion.
