Duffy Says He Would Shut Down U.S. Airspace if Safety Is at Risk

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Monday that if the Trump administration believes the ongoing government shutdown is making travel unsafe, it will shut down the U.S. aviation system.

“If we determine it’s unsafe… we’ll close the entire airspace,” Duffy told CNBC. “We won’t let people travel. We’re not at that point yet—there are just significant delays.” He added, however, that there is “certainly greater risk” during the current shutdown.
