Nine people were injured in multiple stabbing incidents aboard a train near Cambridge in eastern England on Saturday. Police arrested two suspects following what Prime Minister Keir Starmer described as a “horrific incident.”

British Transport Police said counterterrorism officers are assisting with the investigation as authorities work to determine the full circumstances and motive behind the attack.

Chief Superintendent Chris Casey of the British Transport Police said, “We are carrying out an immediate investigation to establish what happened, and it may take some time before we can confirm further details. At this early stage, it would be inappropriate to speculate on the motive.”

Cambridgeshire Police said they received a call at 19:39 GMT reporting multiple stabbings on the 18:25 service from Doncaster in northern England to London King’s Cross.

The train stopped at Huntingdon, where videos posted on social media showed armed officers boarding the carriages.

“Armed officers attended the scene, and the train was stopped at Huntingdon, where two individuals were arrested,” police said.

An eyewitness told Sky News that one suspect, seen waving a large knife, was subdued by police using a Taser.

The East of England Ambulance Service said it launched a major response at Huntingdon railway station, deploying multiple ambulances, critical care teams, and three air ambulances.

Starmer described the event on X as “deeply concerning.”

“My thoughts are with all those affected by this incident,” he wrote, thanking emergency services for their swift and professional response.
