District probe finds homes built illegally on government land

In a major crackdown on narcotics-related crime, the Himachal Pradesh Police and local administration demolished two houses belonging to habitual drug traffickers in Bhadroya village of Indora subdivision, Kangra district, while two others were seized under revenue laws.

The action, carried out under orders from the Additional District Magistrate, was supervised by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Indora) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav. A large police contingent and a Quick Response Team were deployed during the JCB-assisted demolition.

Superintendents of Police for Kangra and Nurpur, Ashok Rattan, said the move was part of the district’s zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking.

“The accused had illegally encroached upon government land and built houses using money earned from the drug trade,” Rattan said.

According to officials, the demolished structures belonged to Sonia, wife of Narendra Kumar, and Paramjit alias Gosha, wife of Ajay, both residents of Bhadroya. The houses belonging to Deepak Raj alias Deepa, son of Manohar Lal, and Bua Das, son of Jagdish Raj, were seized under the Himachal Pradesh land revenue laws.

Police investigations revealed that all four were habitual offenders involved in drug trafficking across Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.

A district-level inquiry confirmed that their houses were constructed illegally on government land. Following verification by the Revenue Department, the Assistant Collector issued eviction warrants under Section 163 of the Himachal Pradesh Land Revenue Act, 1954, and Article 13.15 of the Land Records Rules, 1992. Two illegal structures were subsequently demolished, while two others were officially seized.

According to police records, Sonia has nine cases registered against her between 2017 and 2025 under the NDPS Act in Nurpur, Damtal, and Pathankot, involving recoveries of 2–12 grams of heroin and cash.

Paramjit alias Gosha faces seven NDPS cases filed between 2017 and 2024, with heroin recoveries ranging from 0.98 to 11.63 grams and ₹40,000 in cash.

Deepak Raj has two cases — one involving the recovery of 5.52 grams of heroin in 2020 and another under IPC sections in 2023.

Bua Das is accused in two cases, including recoveries of 700 capsules of Provonspas (2020) and 23.26 grams of heroin (2024).

Police also said that Bua Das and his son, Rohit, had previously been arrested for possessing over one kilogram of heroin and more than ₹1 crore in cash.
