Tragic Kangra Car Crash Claims Lives of Couple; Children Escape Unharmed
A young couple lost their lives in a tragic road accident on the Kangra–Kachhiyari bypass on Thursday afternoon when their Maruti van crashed into a stone retaining wall along the four-lane national highway.
According to police, the impact was so severe that the two occupants in the front seats — Kuldeep Kumar (27), son of Hoshiarpur Singh, and his wife Tamanna (26) — were trapped inside the mangled vehicle. Their bodies were later retrieved using cutting tools by police and local residents.
The victims, residents of Bhati village in the Nagrota Bagwan sub-division of Kangra district, were traveling with their two children, Saksham and Priyanka, who miraculously survived with only minor injuries. The children were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them out of danger and discharged them later the same evening.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident occurred after the driver, Kuldeep Kumar, lost control of the vehicle — either due to overspeeding or a possible mechanical failure. Reports indicate that the van, which was coming from Rani Tal, suddenly veered off course and slammed into the stone wall with great force.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. The bodies of the deceased were sent for postmortem to Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College and Hospital, Tanda.
