40 roads closed across the state; restoration work underway, says PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh

Light to moderate rainfall was recorded in several parts of Himachal Pradesh on Friday, even as the weather office warned of a fresh western disturbance likely to affect the western Himalayan region from October 27.

During the 24 hours since Thursday evening, Pandoh received 24.5 mm of rainfall, followed by Mandi (16.2 mm), Sarahan (15.5 mm), Jogindernagar (12 mm), Gohar (9 mm), Narkanda (7.5 mm) and Bhuntar (4.8 mm).

Thunderstorms were reported in Kangra, Sundernagar, Bhuntar, and Shimla. Light fog was observed in Sundernagar, while gusty winds—reaching speeds of up to 54 kmph—swept through Reckong Peo, Bajaura, Siu Bagh, and Kufri.

A sharp drop in minimum temperature was recorded in Tabo in Lahaul and Spiti district, where it fell to –2°C. However, maximum temperatures remained largely unchanged, with Una being the warmest at 32.3°C.

According to the Meteorological Department, a new western disturbance is expected to impact the western Himalayan region starting October 27.

Between October 1 and 24, the post-monsoon period in Himachal Pradesh saw 68.9 mm of rainfall—significantly higher than the normal 22.9 mm for the same period.

PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh said efforts were underway to restore connectivity, with 40 roads currently closed to traffic across the state.
