Leopard Cub Rescued from Barbed Wire Fence Near Chakki Nallah
A six-month-old male leopard cub was rescued on Wednesday after getting entangled in a barbed wire fence near Chakki Nallah, under the Sadwan forest area of the Nurpur range. Local residents, who were the first to spot the distressed animal, immediately alerted the Forest Department.
Acting swiftly, a team of forest officials led by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Amit Sharma coordinated with wildlife experts and a veterinary team from the Gopalpur Zoo in Palampur. The veterinarians, led by Dr. Nitin, tranquilized the cub to safely free it from the wire.
According to DFO Sharma, the leopard sustained only minor injuries and was given first aid before being kept under observation for a few hours. Once declared fit, the cub was released back into its natural habitat later that evening.
Forest officials praised the villagers for their timely response and commended the coordinated efforts of the rescue team, which ensured the young leopard’s safe return to the wild.
