Light rain expected in some parts of the state till October 9, says IMD

Persistent snowfall in Himachal Pradesh’s higher reaches brought temperatures down across the state, with the capital Shimla recording a minimum of 8.8°C on Tuesday. The minimum temperature dropped by 2.7°C, keeping the city cold and rainy through the day.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), maximum temperatures across the state fell by 6°C to 14°C over the past 24 hours, ranging between 1°C and 30°C, while minimum temperatures dropped by 3°C to 7°C, ranging from -1°C to 22°C.

Snowfall continued in the upper areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and Chamba districts, while several other parts of the state received heavy rain. Lahaul-Spiti’s Gondla village recorded 26.4 cm of snow, followed by Keylong (20 cm) and Kukumseri (5 cm).

In terms of rainfall, Pachhad in Sirmaur district recorded the highest at 60 mm, followed by Nahan (41.6 mm), Solan (34.2 mm), Manali (30 mm), Shimla (25 mm), Kalpa (22.2 mm), Dharamshala (18.8 mm), Kangra (18.4 mm), Bhuntar (16 mm), Mandi (15.2 mm), Sundernagar (14.2 mm) and Bilaspur (11.4 mm).

The IMD has forecast light rainfall in isolated parts of Himachal Pradesh till October 9, after which dry weather is expected to prevail for the rest of the week. Maximum temperatures are likely to rise by 6°C to 10°C, while minimum temperatures may increase by 2°C to 4°C over the next three to four days.

On Tuesday, the minimum temperature stood at 14.8°C in Dharamshala, 6.1°C in Manali, 6°C in Dalhousie, 6.7°C in Kufri, 4.9°C in Narkanda, 3°C in Kalpa, 15.1°C in Nahan, 12.6°C in Solan, 16.1°C in Bilaspur, 13.7°C in Hamirpur, and 15.2°C in Kangra.

Una recorded the day’s highest maximum temperature at 26°C, while Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti was the coldest, with temperatures dipping to -0.5°C.
