“Sukhu Invited Us, Only to Leave Us Hungry”: FIR Filed Against College Students for Slogans Targeting Himachal CM

Police in Solan have registered an FIR against several residents and students — including a few from Government College, Darlaghat — after slogans were raised against Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during his recent visit to the area.
The Chief Minister was in Darlaghat on Saturday to inaugurate a series of animal husbandry schemes. According to police, a section of the crowd, allegedly not on the official guest list, grew angry over lunch arrangements and began shouting slogans such as,
“Sukhu ne bulaya hai, bhookhe hi tadpaya hai”
(“Sukhu invited us, only to leave us hungry”).
A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
Confirming the development, Solan SP Gaurav Singh said that some office-bearers of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) from Government College, Darlaghat, were among those who disrupted the event.
He added that the students had neither been invited nor were they official participants, and their presence appeared to be an attempt to intentionally disturb the proceedings.
However, the college administration maintained that four students from the Scouts and Guides unit had been formally invited by the Animal Husbandry Department to welcome the Chief Minister.
According to the FIR accessed by The Tribune, local resident Basant Lal filed a complaint stating that around 2 p.m. on October 2, while he was at the venue for lunch, he saw several girls chanting slogans against the Chief Minister.
The complaint alleged that the act was deliberate and intended to “incite regional hatred and hostility.” It also noted that while the students were not identified at the time, their names would later be shared with police.
The FIR was registered at Darlaghat Police Station on October 4 under Sections 353(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deal with spreading statements, false information, or rumours intended to promote enmity, hatred, or ill will between different groups on grounds such as religion or community.
Police said a common intent had been established and that the investigation is ongoing. Repeated attempts to contact Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthi for comment remained unsuccessful.
