Three Schoolgirls, Including Two Sisters, Drown in Stream in Una District

Three schoolgirls, including two sisters, drowned in a stream in Balh panchayat of Bangana subdivision, Una district, on Thursday. The victims have been identified as Khushi, daughter of Manjeet, and Komal and Sonakshi, daughters of Ajay Kumar.
According to police, the girls had gone to the stream to wash their school bags when one of them slipped into the water. The other two tried to rescue her but were also swept away by the current.
When the girls did not return home by evening, their families began searching for them. Villagers later spotted their slippers near the stream and noticed two bodies floating in the water. All three bodies were recovered later that evening and taken to Adarsh Hospital in Thana Kalan, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Police officials said the bodies were handed over to the families after post-mortem examinations on Friday. An investigation into the incident is underway.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved families.
Residents have urged the administration to install safety measures at dangerous stretches of the stream to prevent such incidents in the future.
