Kullu Dussehra: Traditional ‘Jaleb’ Procession of Lord Narsingh Mesmerises Devotees

On the second day of the International Kullu Dussehra Festival, the traditional ‘Jaleb’ procession of Lord Narsingh presented a spectacular and regal sight at Dhalpur Ground in Kullu, captivating thousands of devotees who gathered to witness the centuries-old celebration.
To the rhythmic beats of drums and traditional instruments, deities and their devotees (devalus) danced through the streets in a vibrant display of faith and cultural heritage.
The grand procession began around 4:15 p.m. from Raja ki Chanani, where hundreds of devalus assembled to perform the iconic Kullu folk dance, Nati. At the heart of the divine parade was the palanquin of Lord Narsingh, flanked by the chariots of other deities, including the revered Rishi Jamdagni of Peej.
The procession passed through Hospital Road, College Chowk, Circular Road, Rath Maidan, Dhalpur Chowk, and Kachahri, before returning to its starting point. During the ritual, Lord Narsingh symbolically tied a ‘Raksha Sutra’ (sacred thread) at Dhalpur, signifying divine protection and blessings for the region.
Maheshwar, the chief guardian of Lord Raghunath, accompanied the procession in a traditional palanquin. According to Danvendra Singh, kardar (representative) of Lord Raghunath, the royal Jaleb continues for five days, with daily worship dedicated to different deities—remaining the central attraction of the Kullu Dussehra celebrations.
