Toyota Posts Eighth Straight Month of Sales Growth on Strong U.S. Demand

Toyota Motor (7203.T) said on Monday that its global sales rose for the eighth consecutive month in August, as sustained demand for some of its hybrid models in the United States offset weaker performance in Japan.

The automaker’s worldwide sales climbed 2.2% year-on-year to 844,963 vehicles, driven by a 13.6% increase in the U.S. market. Domestic sales, however, fell 12.1%.

Global vehicle production rose 4.9% in August, marking a third straight month of growth.

The figures include Toyota’s luxury Lexus brand.
