Dalai Lama Congratulates Nepal’s New Prime Minister
Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Saturday extended his congratulations to Nepal’s newly appointed Prime Minister, Sushila Karki, who has been tasked with leading an interim government following a week of violent anti-government protests in the Himalayan nation.
In a written message to Karki, the Dalai Lama said, “The people of Nepal and Tibet have shared historically close ties. I am deeply grateful to the government and people of Nepal for providing facilities for the rehabilitation of Tibetan refugees who fled from Tibet after 1959.”
He further added, “Although the Tibetan community is relatively small, I believe it has made a significant contribution to Nepal’s economic development.”
