From villages to cities: These desks will serve as the first point of contact for victims, offering immediate support and guidance.

In a decisive move to address the rising threat of cybercrime, Himachal Pradesh Police has set up dedicated cybercrime help desks in every police station across the state, covering both rural and urban areas. The initiative aims to provide citizens with quick and accessible assistance in reporting cyber incidents and obtaining timely redressal.

These help desks are directly connected to the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), enabling swift actions such as blocking fraudulent transactions and securing vital digital evidence. By ensuring seamless coordination with specialized investigative agencies, the desks will serve as the first point of contact for victims and provide them with immediate relief and expert guidance.

To further strengthen operations, cyber nodal officers have been appointed in all districts to monitor cybercrime cases, while each of the state’s 15 police districts has been equipped with an Integrated Extended Cybercrime (IEC) unit. These units are linked through the Himachal Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (HIM4C), creating a statewide response system that ensures faster investigations and interventions.

DIG (State CID Cybercrime) Mohit Chawla, recently deputed to the ITBP, emphasized the importance of this initiative. He said, “Understanding the urgent need for immediate assistance, we decided to establish cybercrime help desks. The goal is to cover all 138 police stations in the state, ensuring that no victim—no matter where they are located—is left without support.”

Chawla further explained that many police stations previously lacked specialized cyber units, resulting in delays in response and assistance. He underscored that the new help desks will bridge this gap and enhance public trust in cyber policing.

The urgency of such measures is evident from the alarming rise in cybercrime across the state, where more than 600 complaints are received daily through the toll-free helpline number 1930. These cases range from online financial fraud, phishing, and ransomware attacks to social media abuse, stalking, and identity theft—scams that have caused residents losses amounting to crores of rupees.

With this citizen-focused initiative, Himachal Pradesh Police has reaffirmed its commitment to cyber safety, timely justice, and equal access to security in the digital era.
