Shimla, July 22:
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu extended warm wishes to the people of the state on the occasion of the 56th Foundation Day of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU). In his message, the Chief Minister said it is a matter of pride that this esteemed institution has completed 55 remarkable years of imparting knowledge.

He noted that HPU is not just an academic institution, but also a reflection of the state’s social, cultural, political, and economic growth. The university has produced countless bright minds who have made Himachal proud through their accomplishments across various fields, both in India and abroad.

Getting personal, CM Sukhu recalled his own student days at HPU, stating that the university played a crucial role in shaping his thoughts, personality, and life path. He fondly remembered the academic environment, the guidance of his teachers, and the friendships formed during those formative years—memories that remain vivid to this day.

Acknowledging the changing times, the Chief Minister said that today’s era is driven by information technology and innovation, and universities must evolve accordingly. “If we don’t keep pace with change, we risk falling behind,” he said, stressing the need for HPU to lead by example and embrace innovation in both academic practices and administrative systems.

He further recommended that the university regularly review its curriculum to align with market demands—introducing new, relevant courses and phasing out outdated ones. “The aim should be to ensure that students graduating from HPU are not just degree-holders, but skilled, self-reliant, and ready to meet the challenges of the future,” he added.

CM Sukhu also appreciated the establishment of five new research centres at the university, calling it a progressive step forward. He commended Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mahavir Singh for his leadership and expressed hope that such initiatives would continue.

Lastly, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to HPU’s teaching and non-teaching staff for contributing a portion of their salaries to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund in support of disaster-affected families—a gesture he described as truly commendable.
