Mandi, July 16:
Himachal Pradesh will appoint 200 new doctors in remote healthcare facilities across the state by the end of this month, ensuring improved medical services in underserved regions. Announcing the move at a press conference in Sundernagar, Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil stated that once assigned to a station, doctors will not be eligible for transfer for at least three years, especially from rural to urban centers. This policy aims to prevent the frequent doctor shortages plaguing remote areas.

Minister Shandil acknowledged that many hospitals, particularly in far-flung regions, continue to suffer from a shortage of doctors. “We are appointing 200 doctors this month and have submitted a request for 200 more to meet the growing demand,” he said.

He also addressed concerns about doctors seeking transfers to cities shortly after joining rural posts. “We’ve received several complaints about doctors managing transfers soon after their postings. Going forward, transfers will only be considered after a mandatory three-year tenure, to ensure continuity in healthcare services,” he added.

Dialysis Facilities in Small Towns and Remote Areas

Shandil also shared that the Health Department has begun setting up dialysis machines in smaller towns and remote health centers to make specialized care more accessible. So far, dialysis facilities have been installed at 47 locations, with more centers being identified based on need and performance. He confirmed that funds have already been received and installation in additional locations will begin shortly.

Acknowledging Heroes of the Disaster Response

Highlighting the recent disaster response in the remote Seraj region of Mandi district, the Minister said that 14 mules and 25 porters played a critical role in transporting relief material to inaccessible areas where even helicopters couldn’t reach. He announced that the porters who undertook this risky mission will be honored by the government.

He further noted that 24 medical teams have been deployed to provide door-to-door healthcare services and awareness in the disaster-hit regions, ensuring timely treatment and support for affected families.
