Shimla, July 14:
There appears to be no immediate relief from rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, with the Meteorological Department forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across most parts of the state until July 20. An orange alert has been issued for Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts, while warnings remain in effect for several others including Shimla and Solan.

As of Monday afternoon, heavy rain has already begun lashing Shimla and surrounding areas. According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, nine districts have recorded above-average rainfall so far this monsoon season. Notably, Mandi district has seen 91% more rainfall than the seasonal average.

Sandeep Kumar Sharma, a senior meteorologist, said that moderate rainfall was recorded in Shimla, Mandi, and Sirmaur over the past 24 hours. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely on July 14 and 15, prompting the orange alert in the three districts. Additionally, warnings have been issued for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Shimla, and Solan.

From July 16 to 20, more widespread rainfall is expected, particularly in Sirmaur, Shimla, Kullu, and Mandi.

Sharma also noted that a western disturbance is currently active over the region alongside the monsoon, raising the likelihood of snowfall in higher elevations in the coming days. Except for Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti, all districts have so far recorded normal or above-normal rainfall, with the state receiving 19% more rainfall than average this season.
