Mandi, July 6:
The same serene beauty of Seraj Valley that drew tourists from across the country turned into a landscape of devastation they will never forget. Yet amid the adversity, the resilience and courage of the locals during this disaster left the visitors deeply moved, offering them a profound lesson in endurance and humanity.

On Sunday, 63 tourists who had been stranded in Janjehli for six days due to the calamity were finally evacuated safely and sent home. These visitors had come from various parts of India to explore the scenic Seraj Valley. The district administration managed to restore the Karsog–Janjehli road via Shankardehra by Sunday afternoon, prioritizing the evacuation of the stranded tourists. They had been staying in local hotels throughout the ordeal.

The tourists shared that shortly after the disaster struck, police and administrative teams reached out and assured their safety. Through a satellite phone installed at the local police station, they were also able to speak to their families and inform them of their wellbeing.

During their six-day stay, they not only witnessed the scale of the natural disaster but also came face-to-face with the harsh realities of life in the mountains. Many of them said they had seen a different India—one full of compassion, resilience, and community spirit—that they would carry in their hearts forever. They expressed deep gratitude to the state government, district administration, and especially the local residents for their kindness and support.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mandi, Gursimar Singh, informed that road connectivity has been restored from Bagsyad to Thunag and Lambathach, as well as from Karsog to Janjehli via Shankardehra. The rescued tourists were evacuated through this latter route. He added that relief operations in Janjehli have been intensified, with essential supplies now also being airlifted to the area by helicopter.
