Shimla, June 26:
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed all Deputy Commissioners in Himachal Pradesh to remain on high alert and ensure round-the-clock availability in view of the ongoing monsoon and the risk of natural disasters. He emphasized that the administration must be fully prepared to respond effectively to adverse weather conditions.

Reviewing the current monsoon situation virtually from Shimla on Thursday, the Chief Minister instructed officials to carry out relief and rehabilitation operations in disaster-affected areas on a war footing. He specifically directed that people residing near rivers and streams—particularly migrant workers—be identified and shifted to safer locations. He also instructed that advisories be issued to warn both locals and tourists against venturing near water bodies or dangerous zones.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of promptly reporting any damage or emergency to the state government so that timely action can be taken. He also highlighted the recurring losses to hydroelectric projects during monsoon seasons and called for a comprehensive strategy to minimize future damage to such infrastructure.

CM Sukhu informed that in the past 24 hours, the state has witnessed three cloudbursts, flooding at nine locations, and three incidents of landslides, resulting in the death of five people and injury to one. Three persons are still missing in Kullu district, while five to six are unaccounted for in Kangra. So far, 21 people have been rescued by relief teams.

He also reported that traffic on National Highway-505 and NH-3 remains blocked due to multiple landslides. Following a cloudburst near the Majhan Nala in the Sainj Valley, operations at the Sainj, Parvati, and Larji hydroelectric projects have been temporarily suspended, and dam gates have been opened as a precautionary measure. Teams from SDRF, Home Guards, and NDRF are actively engaged in rescue and relief operations in the affected areas.

The Chief Minister warned that any negligence in relief work will not be tolerated.

The high-level review meeting was also attended by legislators Mohan Lal Brakta and Ashish Butail, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Special Secretary (Revenue) D.C. Rana, and the CM’s OSD Gopal Sharma, among other senior officials.
