Congress Leaders Pay Tribute to Former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on His 91st Birth Anniversary
Shimla, 23 June: On the 91st birth anniversary of the late Virbhadra Singh, six-time Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Congress leaders and party workers gathered at Rajiv Bhavan, the state Congress headquarters in Shimla, to pay homage. Floral tributes were offered by Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar, PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh, former Health Minister Kaul Singh Thakur, Shimla (Urban) MLA Harish Janartha, Shimla Mayor Surender Chauhan, and other Congress leaders. A two-minute silence was also observed in his memory.
Speaking on the occasion, Vikramaditya Singh said, “Today marks the 91st birth anniversary of the late Virbhadra Singh. It is a day to remember and reflect upon his immense contribution to the development of Himachal Pradesh. He always worked beyond the lines of regionalism and caste, focusing on the holistic progress of the state. It is now our responsibility to carry forward his vision.”
He added that a statue of Virbhadra Singh has been installed at the historic Ridge in Shimla and was originally scheduled to be unveiled today. However, after discussions with national leaders, the unveiling has been rescheduled to 15 July.
Vikramaditya Singh confirmed that several prominent national leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mallikarjun Kharge, along with Himachal’s Chief Minister, Cabinet ministers, and leaders of the opposition, are expected to attend the unveiling ceremony.
